Soroptimist International – Bombay Chembur organized a collection drive across four schools in Mumbai in collaboration with the NGO Goonj. The drive was organized in the month of April, which marks the end of current school year. A collection of used and new school supplies like uniforms, notebooks, stationary, lunch boxes, water bottles and anything which the students did not require for the next school year was made. The drive was enormously successful and we were able to collect 112 cartons of goods which were handed over to the NGO Goonj. The items from the collection are distributed among kids and families in rural schools who are lacking the basic necessities required for school. This initiative is aimed to reduce the dropout rate among rural schools and improving the quality of education in these schools.
