A Session was organised on the topic ‘My First Period’ for girls of Grade 5 of Mahatma International School, Khanda Colony, Panvel on the 11th February, 2020. The session covered the topics of menstruation, menstrual hygiene and myths associated with it. Around 70 girl students attended this session conducted by SIBC member, Ms. Yvette Lee.
SIBC launched a project named SASHAKT, a series of sessions on ‘Gender, Rights and Sexuality’ for girls and women. The sessions will be held with various target groups between the months of August to November, 2019.
The first session of the project was held on 23rd August, 2019 for students of Grade 11 and 12. Two parallel sessions were held. For the girls, a session on Cyber security was conducted and for the boys a session on Addiction and its Effects was conducted. Around 150 students attended this session.
The second session of the project was held on 28th and 29th August, 2019 for girl students between the age group of 18-21 years. The session covered topics such as gender equality, selection of life partner, marital adjustments, sexuality and legal aspects and rights in marriage. This session was held in collaboration with Stree Mukti Sanghatana, an organisation working towards women empowerment in Mumbai. Around 65 girls attended the session held over 2 days. The sessions were very interactive and it helped changed the mindset of students on sexuality and marriage.
The 3rd session of the project was held on 25th September, 2019 for students of Grade 6-8 on the topics of love, infatuation, consent and social media usage. This session was held in collaboration with NGO Rescue. Around 100 students both boys and girls attended the session that lasted for one hour.
