16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence 2024
SI Bombay Chembur had a hugely energetic run of observing 16 Days of Activism 2024. In collaboration with various instates of Pillai Group of Institutes, we organised awareness programmes, expert talks, street plays, poster campaigns etc. to cover several issues such as the POSH Law, Cyber Security, AIDS awareness, Domestic violence, Mental Health etc.
SDGs addressed were: #3: Good Health and Wee-being, #5: Gender Equality, #16: Peace, justice and strong institutions.
Below is a summary of the events conducted.
Orange Day
Date: 25th November, 2024
SIBC along with the Women Development Cell (WDC) of MES Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani observed the ‘Orange Day’ on 25th November, 2024 to mark ’16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence’. The theme was ‘Unite to end violence against women and girls’.
All students and staff members wore orange attire and collectively took a pledge to work towards ending violence against women. The pledge resonated deeply, reinforcing the collective determination to create a safer world for women.
Talk on Women’s Safety
Date: 29th November, 2024
An expert talk was organised for the students of Pillai HOC College of Arts Science and Commerce on the topic of “From Awareness to Action: Women’s Safety in India”. The resource speaker was Mr. Sanjay Bangar, Senior PI, Rasayani Police Station. The vent was organised in collaboration with the Women Development Cell of the college.

HIV/ AIDS – Street Play
Date: 2nd December, 2024
On this day, World AIDS Day, we collaborated with MES’s Pillai College of Education and Research Chembur, to perform a Street Play at three different locations at Chembur Station ticket counter, Chembur BMC Office and Chembur Naka. These were performed by highly motivated students of PCER, Chembur.
The campaign aimed to educate the public about HIV/AIDS, its prevention, and its impact on society while addressing the stigma surrounding the condition. The plays were hugely successful in drawing the attention of common citizens and thereby making them aware of this important issue.

Click, Swipe, Secure: Awareness on Cyber Abuse
Date: 4th December, 2024
We got together with Pillai HOC College of Architecture, Rasayani to organise an expert session on cybersecurity titled, “Click, Swipe, Secure: Cyber Laws & Social Media Decoded”. The students were made aware of the risks of cyber abuse and ways to avoid them.

POSH Awareness Talk
Date: 4th December, 2024
SIBC collaborated with Pillai College of Education and Research Chembur to conduct a Workshop on the topic, ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace’ on 4th December 2024. This interactive session helped to raise awareness, promote sensitivity, and empower the students to create a safe and respectful work environment.

Awareness Session on Gender-based Violence
Date: 4th December, 2024
SIBC organised an awareness session for the children of MES HOCL School Rasayani to sensitise them on the issues of gender-based violence. Our members Celina Joy and Yvette Lee were the main speakers. This was an interactive session in which the children participated with their posters, poems, speeches etc.


‘Orange the World’ Campaign
Date: 5th December, 2024
SIBC in association with Pillai HOC College of Education and Research Rasayani organised a campaign – “Orange the World”, where the colour is a mark of resistance to prevailing violence against girls and women. Students of the college wore orange clothes to mark 16 days of activism. Discussions were held among students on the rights of women, the current reality and also on measures that they and the government should take to ensure safety of women.
Poster Making Competition
Date: 9th December, 2024
We organised a Poster Making Competition on 9th December, 2024, in association with Pillai College of Arts Commerce and Science Panvel, to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism. The students came up with amazing ideas, concepts and creativity to express themselves on the theme of gender-based violence and women’s empowerment.
POSH Awareness Expert Talk
Date: 9th December, 2024
SIBC in collaboration with the Women Development Cell (WDC) of MES Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani organised a seminar titled “Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace” on 9th December, 2024 to observe ‘Sexual Harassment at Workplace Prevention Week’. The event was organised to commemorate the adoption of the POSH Act, 2013.

Human Rights Day – POSH Awareness
Date: 10th December, 2024
SIBC in collaboration with Pillai Instt. Of Management Studies and Research, Panvel conducted a session on Sexual Harassment at the Workplace to observe Human Rights Day. About 127 students and 6 faculty members attended this session.
