Week 14
Week 2 to 13
Week 1 – 25 to 30th July, 2016
Literacy is very important for the socio-economic progress and empowerment for women. To spread this message and build awareness, SIBC launched its flagship project, Adult Literacy Programme, on Wednesday, the 27th of July, 2016. The beneficiaries of the Adult Literacy Programme are illiterate and semi- literate women who belong to the poorer sections of society from the nearby localities of Chembur and Govandi. A need assessment survey was conducted and based on the feedback received, the members of SIBC have sketched out a detailed plan for literacy classes for the period August 2016 to March 2017. Around 120 women attended the session at the Chembur Campus. The sessions will cover Conversational English, Basic Literacy (reading, writing and math) and Skill Development Programmes. The sessions will be held on every Tuesday and Thursday. Soroptimist members Dr. Daphne Pillai, Celina Joy, Preeti Pawar, Yvette Lee, Parveen Arif, Annamma Paul and Reni Francis were present.
