International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Soroptimist Welfare Association (SIBC) in collaboration with Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science organized a webinar on ‘Women in STEM’ on 10th February, 2022, with the motive of empowering and celebrating female contribution as well as development in the fields of STEM. The speakers of the webinar were Ms. Munawira Kotyad, Soroptimist member, Founder of Wonderwheel Enterprises, and Director at Pillai Center for Innovation and Research; Ms. Nidhi Sharma, Scrum Master at Capgemini, Agile Coach; and Ms. Akanksha Pandya, Technical Lead at Wipro technologies.

The webinar witnessed the presence of the teaching staff along with an overwhelming response from the students. The webinar aimed at helping the representation of women and girls in STEM while narrowing the existing gender gap and societal bias. These thought-provoking topics proved their interest by engaging the audience and making the webinar interactive. Ms. Munawira Kotyad enlightened the audience with the facts regarding the total percentage of Indian and U.S. women graduating in the fields of STEM and how India as a country, even though one of the most populous, has scope to do better.

Lastly, the students asked several questions, sharing their thoughts regarding STEM and their interests in the field. The feedback of the webinar was hugely positive and the webinar itself was appreciated by the attendees.

Soroptimist Welfare Association in Collaboration with Chembur English High School conducted an interactive session on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11th February 2022. SWA PAC Ms. Munawira Kotyad was the resource person for the session. She spoke on the need for girls to take up science and technology as further studies as well as join the profession.
