International Day of Yoga 2023

SI Bombay Chembur celebrated International Day of Yoga with a big flourish. We collaboration with Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research, Panvel; with edukidz INTERNATIONAL PRESCHOOL, Tilaknagar; Chembur English High School, Chembur; Mahatma Night Degree College of Arts and Commerce, Chembur; and Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani. Several guest experts were invited to guide and motivate the participants. A large number of students, teachers and staff participated in performing Yoga.

These activities covered SDG #3: Good Health and well-being

On 17th June, an energizing yoga session was organized for the female help staff at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel. The instructor for the session was Ms. Savita Shrimant Gaikwad who is an internationally certified yoga trainer and has eight years experience in yoga, meditation & spirituality. She recently won the Miss. Maharashtra title.All the help staff enthusiastically participated in the session. Snacks were served after the session.SIBC Founder President Dr. Daphne Pillai was present for the session and encouraged the participants. SIBC members Dr. Celina Joy and Dr. Betty Sibil organised and attended the event. 55 participants benefited from the session. Ms. Asha Sarwade, one of the participants mentioned that “This is the first time I attended a yoga session. The exercises are simple and effective. I will practice them everyday to help me manage stress”.


On 21st June, the following events were organized.

We organized “Yoga for Fun and Fitness: Inhale the Future and Exhale the Past”, for the tiny tots of edukidz INTERNATIONAL PRESCHOOL, Tilaknagar. The instructor was Ms Supriya Mali, a Yoga teacher at Ojasve Yog. She used the fun-way method for teaching Yoga to 80 kids who participated. SIBC member Ms. Namita Kafaliya organized the event.


We also organized “Yoga with Fun” for the students of Chembur English High School. 50 kids joined the session and discovered flexibility in their bodies. Ms. Priyanka Tarun and Nihar Londhe from Zen Fitness Studio were the instructors. After a few warm up exercises, the students practiced and performed sitting and standing asanas. They were also taught the importance of these asanas by the guest experts. SIBC member Ms. Preeti Pawar organized the event.

On the same evening, a Yoga session was held for the students of Mahatma Night Degree College, Chembur. The instructor was Mrs. Shilpa Ghone, Central Coordinator of Academics, Kaivalyadham, Mumbai. SIBC member Ms. Lata Krishnan organized the event.


At Pillai Rasayani campus, a Yoga Shivir was organized as a campus wide activity. Resource person was Mr. Ram Palat Yadav, retired naval officer. 335 participants – students, teachers and staff — took benefit of the event which was full of collective energy and enthusiasm.
