SI Bombay Chembur celebrated World Environment Day in collaboration with Pillai Group of Institutions with several programmes with students of all ages.

SDG Covered: #13: Climate Action, #4: quality Education

We teamed up with Pillai HOCL School in Rasayani to energise young minds towards environmental awareness. To begin with, a skit was performed by the students, focusing on conservation of natural resources and reducing plastic usage. Also, a variety of hands-on eco-activities were conducted including the creation of eco-friendly cards using recycled materials, sapling plantation etc. Teachers and members of Soroptimist International enthusiastically participated in planting saplings in and around the school premises, fostering a sense of responsibility and care for nature. The event also included a pledge ceremony where everyone vowed to adopt greener habits in their daily lives.

We also collaborated with Chembur English High school and conducted a slew of activities on the theme – “Say No to Plastic“. The celebration aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of plastic and encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives. Some of the activities were – essay writing, poster making, making of cloth bags and distributing among vegetable vendors who were most happy with the gesture. Another exciting activity was ‘Best Out of Waste’ – using wrappers to make a pen holder, wall hanging, pouches etc. The students created innovative posters and products advocating for a plastic-free world, effectively spreading the message of sustainability.

We teamed up with Pillai College of Education and Research, Chembur with an aim to sensitise future teachers towards importance of climate action and preservation of nature. A curated course was delivered via Google Classrooms covering topics like environmental sustainability, climate change, afforestation, and responsibility in protecting the environment. Students were also encouraged to plant trees in their neighbourhoods.
