Inter-college Toilet Design Competition
SI Bombay Chembur concluded 4th annual cycle of NIRMAL 2024 – an Inter-college Toilet Design Competition with a theme of ‘Toilet Facilities at Railway Stations’. The competition aimed at inspiring architecture students in exploring innovative and sensitive design in improving the quality, usability and cultural image of toilet facilities at railway stations.
This was a 3-month long project for observing World Toilet Day, linked with the SDG #6 – Water and Sanitation for All.

The competition was organised in collaboration with Pillai HOC College of Architecture, Rasayani and was open for undergraduate students nationwide. SIBC members Dr. Smita Dalvi and Ms. Suchita Sayaji conceptualised the theme and were the conveners of the competition. We received team entries from all over the country, besides from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai architecture colleges. An eminent jury panel was appointed to judge the competition and cash prizes were awarded to winning entries. The judges were highly appreciative of the initiative to raise awareness among architecture students and were very impressed by the innovative designs submitted by the students.
Three prizes were awarded with cash prize co-sponsored by SIBC and the collaborating college. A few snippets from the prize-winning entries are shared here.
