International Literacy Day 2023

On the occasion of international Literacy Day, SIBC in association with Mahatma HOCL School and Rotary Club of Patalganga organised a phonetics workshop for Grade 4 students of Primary School Parade, a small Zilla Parishad School on the 8th September, 2023. Around 50 students attended this session.

This activity was done towards the fulfillment of SDG 4 and 5.


SI Bombay Chembur observed International Literacy Day with three projects on 8th, 13th and 21st September respectively.

21st September, 2023
Third, on 21st September, 2023 SIBC in association with Dr. Pillai Global Academy DPGA, Panvel organised a session on financial literacy for the support staff and Maushis of DPGA. They were given information about Provident Fund and were also helped to link their Aadhaar card with Pan card. The event was co-ordinated by our member Ms. Yvette Lee.

13th September, 2023
Second, under our flagship project ‘Power of a Second Chance’, we concluded our Adult Literacy Drive project of this year with a convocation ceremony for the beneficiaries. A 3-week course in digital literacy was conducted for women from marginalised communities at Chembur English High School between 10th April and 29th April, 2023. A total of 18 participants successfully completed the course. Our member Ms. Preeti Pawar co-ordinated the course and Dr. Daphne Pillai, our founder president bestowed the certificates during a joyous convocation ceremony held on 13 September at the school. Many members joined the ceremony and encouraged the awardees.

8th September, 2023

First, we organised a donation drive in collaboration with radiant Minds Preschool, Atur Park. Here, the kids as well as other folks contributed educational books, toys, clothes and grains to support literacy among children and families in need. The collected items were handed over to the NGO Manav Jeevan Society on 08 September – the International Literacy Day. Our member Dr. Sunita Jain co-ordinated the project.
