Awareness Session – ‘Save the Girl Child’
We also organised an online session on the theme “Save the Girl Child”, in collaboration with Pillai College of Education and Research Chembur. The guest speaker was Ms. Gia Alvares, Program and Outreach Officer at the Red Dot Foundation and a representative of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC). The foundation aims to empower women and communities by addressing issues of sexual violence and gender inequality. Through their flagship program, Safecity, they focus on crowd mapping sexual harassment incidents in public spaces, thus enabling safer environments for women and children. A short video on Safecity was presented, highlighting how the platform encourages women and girls to report incidents of sexual abuse and harassment.
The session was part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness about gender equality, child protection, and creating safer environments for girls and women. It was co-ordinated by our member Dr. Reni Francis.
