Awareness talk on Illegal Trafficking of Girl Children
To commemorate World AIDS Day on 1st December, 2012, the Soroptimist International Bombay-Chembur Club in association with the Red Ribbon Club of the NSS Unit, Mahatma Night Degree College, Chembur organized a lecture by Mr. Anson Thomas on the topic “Illegal Trafficking of Girl Children” on the 22nd November 2012 at 6.30 pm. Around 250 students of the Night Degree College attended this talk.
During his one and a half hour lecture, Mr. Thomas spoke about the issue of prostitution and how many young girls are lured into this business. He shared with us many horrifying stories of young girls and their lives. He also very significantly addressed the boy students and asked them not to indulge in these activities to erase the risk of diseases like AIDS which is on the rise today.
Mr. Anson Thomas is a dynamic individual and state- level sportsperson. He was awarded the CNN-IBN & Reliance Industries REAL HEROS award for the year 2009 for women empowerment and for having rescued above 700 girls forced into prostitution.
