Report
On 25th October 2025, MES’s Pillai College of Education and Research (Autonomous), Chembur, in collaboration with Soroptimist International Bombay Chembur (SIBC), organized the community initiative ‘Fistful of Grains’ to commemorate World Food Day and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The program aimed to address food insecurity in nearby slum areas and create awareness about the power of sharing for a hunger-free society.
The collection drive began at 11:00 a.m. on the college campus, where students, faculty, and well-wishers donated essential grains including tur dal, moong dal, masoor dal, rice, and sugar. The initiative successfully gathered 30 kilograms of rice, 20 kilograms of sugar, and 50 kilograms of dals. These grains were carefully packed and distributed among families in need. The distribution took place in the areas surrounding Chembur Signal and the Eastern Express Highway, with student-teachers actively engaging in door-to-door visits. Guided by supportive local residents, they ensured that the grains reached over 100 families, providing much-needed relief.
The initiative received heartfelt appreciation from the community and proved to be an eye-opening experience for student-teachers, instilling empathy, teamwork, and social responsibility. By combining small contributions into meaningful action, PCER Chembur and SIBC reaffirmed their commitment to social welfare and sustainable development.
